GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread

GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread, made from 100 percent expanded PTFE and engineered specifically for the demands of filtration applications, withstands exposure to chemicals, high temperatures, abrasives, and moist environments.

  • Chemically inert to acids, caustics, solvents and hydrocarbons (0-14pH)
  • Temperature resistant from -350ºF to 550ºF (-212ºC to 288ºC)
  • Non contaminating - will not shed or cause contamination
  • Low shrinkage at high temperatures
  • Non-aging
  • Unaffected by moist environments
  • Non-flammable - meets standard requirements of UL94 V-O, LOI is greater than 95 percent
  • Made from 100 percent expanded PTFE

Why do sewn filter bags and cartridges fail?

Filter bags, cartridges, and other sewn filter media are exposed to extreme temperatures chemicals, abrasives, and, occasionally, moist environments, for extended periods. These conditions degrade the filter media and thread, and the thread often gives out first. In some cases the thread is not appropriate for the application, or it simply wears out from chemical, temperature, or abrasive attack before the filter media.

How is GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread different?

Made from 100 percent expanded PTFE and engineered specifically for the demands of filtration applications, GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread will not degrade in chemicals, high temperatures, or abrasive or moist environments. And because, unlike other high temperature threads, GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread does not use finishes or coatings, it is non-contaminating in clean or pure filtration applications.

How do I size GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread?

For most filtration applications, the SO12T1 ("regular") size thread is sufficient. The decision to use SO24T4 ("heavy") is up to the fabricator. If the seam needs to withstand excessive constant tension and is only single stitch, SO24T4 is generally desired. There are various size designations for every thread material. Therefore, it is sometimes difficult to compare threads. The following is a reference for selecting the proper size GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread. The fabricator should determine specific thread requirements to verify thread suitability.

Current Thread Use This Size RASTEX Thread
Fiberglass '12'
Other 'PTFE' thread, 1350d
Nomex®,'FF'
Polyester '92'
SO12T1
Fiberglass '18' or '24'
Nomex, '3 cord', '4 cord'
Polyester '138'
SO24T4

How will GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread perform in my machines?

Most high-temperature threads break and skip stitches, making sewing difficult. GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread is designed for good sewability. We recommend using light tension and proper needle size whenever possible when using GORE™ RASTEX® Sewing Thread to ensure optimum results.

RASTEX Thread Part Number Recommended Needle Size Size Nominal Break Strength Length
