GORE Ultrasound Cable

The GORE™ Ultrasound Probe Cable Assembly is well suited for the use in different types of ultrasound probes. This cable is a ribbon based product, shaped into a round cable configuration. Its electrical performance is equivalent to today’s 75 Ohm coax while improving dimensions and weight properties that provide superior ergonomics.


Ergonomic Advantages

The following facts have been identified by Susan Murphy and Carolyn Coffin (Sound Ergonomics ):

“84% of sonographers experience pain of the neck and shoulder while scanning, 90% of sonographers endure pain for more than half of their career and 20% of sonographers are forced into early retirement due to pain.” Further they explain, that “heavy and inflexible transducer cables put additional strain on the wrist, forearm and elbow of the scanning arm requiring increased gripforce to resist the torque created by the transducer cable”. In conclusion Murphy/Coffin stated, that “ergonomic equipment design is critical to decreasing the personal and financial impact of musculoskeletal disorders among sonographers.”*

The GORE™ Ultrasound Probe Cable Assembly helps to support  the ergonomic features of a modern ultrasound probe designs. Its lighter weight and higher flexibility provide a good basis for overall better ergonomics without compromising mechanical flex life capabilities. Since this cable is based upon a planar ribbon layout, the termination times can be reduced substantially over the typical coax termination. This saves up to 50% termination cost and provides better prices, better flexibility and shorter lead times to the end customer. The product can be provided in different integration stages. It is available as bulk cable, prepped for termination or as a fully completed turn-key device including boards, strain relief boots and connectors.

To complete our product offering, we have also added standard coaxial cables to the product line which are available as high cap cables, low cap cables or cable assemblies. We also offer a very high density cable. The GORE™ Microminiature Flat Cable combines highest signal density with mass termination capabilities. It is used in disposable catheter applications.
