Overview

Saving space and lowering launch mass are critical aboard spacecrafts. GORE Space Cables, Type CSC are up to 29% smaller and up to 19% lighter than ESCC3901/019. Our cables are up to 10% smaller and 21% lighter when compared to ESCC 3901/002, and they are qualified according to ESCC 3901/025 

The smaller cable diameter increases flexibility for a tighter bend radius and easier routing, and the enhanced color coding provides easier identification for faster installation.

Our cables have a robust construction that provides reliable power and signal distribution for long-lasting performance. GORE Space Cables, Type CSC offer a cost-effective alternative to other cables that are qualified according to ESCC 3901.

The Science Behind the Cables

The key to our space cables’ performance is the proprietary material used in their insulation, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). This specialized insulation increases the cable’s ability to bend and flex, while protecting the conductors from stress and damage. The ePTFE material also eliminates the need to trim frayed insulation, and its specialized construction reduces the overall cable diameter so it fits in the tightest enclosures.

Applications

GORE Space Cables, Type CSC are frequently used for:

  • analog signal transmission (box-to-box)
  • power and low-frequency signal distribution

Notably, the cables were selected for use in the Meteosat Third Generation and will be incorporated into the new Euclid and Cosmo satellite configurations.
